Men's Golf at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- South Carolina carded consecutive rounds of 292 (+4) to open the General Hackler Championship on Saturday at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club. The Gamecocks sit in seventh place heading into tomorrow's final round.

Seniors Keenan Huskey and Ben Dietrich are both T-19th at 1-over par. Huskey shot 73 to start the day and finished with an even par 72 this afternoon. He led the team with 10 birdies on Saturday. Dietrich came back strong from a 1-over 74 in the morning with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon.

Junior Scott Stevens was T-3rd after shooting a 4-under 68 in the first round. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native, was unable to get it going in the afternoon though as he shot a 6-over 78 in the second round. Stevens is T-24th at 2-over heading into Sunday seven shots off the lead.

Sophomore Caleb Proveaux is T-50th (+7) and fellow sophomore Jamie Wilson is T-79th (+12). Junior Will Miles, who is playing as an individual this weekend, is T-69th (+9).

No. 8 Georgia Tech is in the lead at 9-under, four shots in front of No. 2 Texas A&M heading into Sunday. They were the only two teams to shoot under par on Saturday. Philip Barbaree has a one-shot lead in the individual standings at 5-under as he shot 68 and 71 today.

After carding a 2-over 74 in the first round this morning, senior Ben Dietrich shot 71 (-1) this afternoon, his fifth round of par or better this season. The Bluffton, S.C., native, will be gunning for his first top-20 finish of the season on Sunday and the seventh of his career. He had seven birdies on Saturday, six coming in the second round (four on the front nine).

  • Senior Keenan Huskey is T-2nd in the field with 10 birdies. He's T-3rd in par-5 scoring average at 4.50 (-4).

  • Junior Scott Stevens was one of just 11 players in the 84-man field to card a round in the 60s on Saturday.

  • Carolina's first round 292 snapped a streak of six consecutive team scores under par dating back to the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, the team's final fall event in early November.

  • The Gamecocks have finished outside of the top-five just once this season (8th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate -- Sept. 8-10).

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 23 North Florida and East Carolina for the final round on Sunday. Sophomore Jamie Wilson will lead things off for Carolina at 8:30 a.m. ET on hole one.
