Gamecocks Work Out Wednesday|
Oct. 26, 2011
The University of South Carolina football team worked out Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields.
The Gamecocks (6-1, 4-1 SEC) are ranked 14th in both major polls entering the week and are ranked 13th in this week's BCS Standings. They are facing a Tennessee team that is 3-4 overall and 0-4 in league play. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Knoxville's Neyland Stadium. ESPN2 will carry the broadcast nationally with Mark Jones and Ed Cunningham in the booth and Jessica Mendoza working the sidelines.
Of note on Wednesday, redshirt freshman wide receiver Bruce Ellington was held out of practice with a slight hamstring injury. Former Gamecock and current Green Bay Packers practice squad player Tori Gurley made an appearance at practice.
Running backs coach Jay Graham has been impressed by true freshman Brandon Wilds in practice this week. "He's been doing good, picking up blitzes and doing all that stuff. That's the most important thing," said Graham. "Ball security has been good so I think he's ready to go. I think he's more mentally prepared this week."
Graham expects both Kenny Miles and Eric Baker to be ready to go as well. "(Miles) looked good in practice. I'll still talk to the trainer to make sure that he's ready to go. It's day-to-day, but he's practiced all week. Baker is back. He's been practicing all week. He's been doing well. We got three or four guys ready to go."
The Gamecocks will be back on the practice fields Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
