Gamecocks Practice Wednesday|
Oct. 10, 2012
With the State Fair opening just down the street, the third-ranked University of South Carolina Gamecock football team practiced Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road "Proving Grounds" in Columbia.
The Gamecocks (6-0, 4-0 SEC) will be putting their FBS-leading 10-game winning streak on the line when they travel to Baton Rouge to face the No. 9 LSU Tigers (5-1, 1-1 SEC) on Saturday night. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN with Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit calling the action and Heather Cox working the sidelines. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
Redshirt sophomore Corey Robinson is slated to make his fourth-consecutive start at left tackle, the first four starts of his career. "It was mental for him," said offensive line coach Shawn Elliott. "He's always had the tools to come out and be a good player. He never really bought in to playing. Right now he's doing real well and we're pleased with him. As long as he can keep his motivation and focus he's going to be a good player."
Junior quarterback Connor Shaw has continued to be very effective throwing the ball, completing 41-of-49 passes over the last three games. "I hope he keeps it up," said quarterback coach G.A. Mangus. "Connor's a good player. He's accurate. More importantly though, is you tend to throw for a high percentage when you make good decisions. He's making good decisions."
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday.
