Gamecocks Practice Wednesday Morning
Aug 21, 2013
The University of South Carolina football team worked out at the Bluff Road practice fields for a little over two hours Wednesday morning. It was the squad's final workout before the fall semester begins at the University on Thursday.
There has been much talk about the quick-paced passing attack of the North Carolina offense. "That's the illusion of their offense," said defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward. "They do go hurry up. But they run the football - it's probably 50-50 if you break down their offense. They run it just as much as they throw it. They're going to throw the ball on the perimeter with their screens and things of that nature. That's just a running play to me when a guy catches a screen behind the line of scrimmage. They're going to try to make us get winded early, we understand that," continued Ward. "We played Missouri last year, who was fast-paced. Our offense has done a good job in camp of giving us a hurry-up. I think our guys will be ready."
Coach Ward welcomed senior defensive end Chaz Sutton back to full duty on Wednesday. "He practiced the entire day today. He's back in a white jersey practicing today."
Kadetrix Marcus, who has been sidelined with a left knee sprain, saw limited "no contact" action on Wednesday.
Players who did not practice or wore yellow jerseys were: Devin Washington (concussion), Jerell Adams (ankle), Carlton Heard (hamstring), James King (foot), Gerald Turner (ankle), Kyle Morini (elbow), Bruce Ellington (hamstring), Cedrick Cooper (elbow), Rory "Busta" Anderson (hamstring), Mike Matulis (shoulder) and Cody Gibson (sprained right knee).
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon at 4:15 p.m.
The first Carolina Calls radio call-in show featuring head coach Steve Spurrier and longtime Gamecocks play-by-play voice Todd Ellis will be held at Wild Wings Café in the Vista on Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. The show airs on the flagship station of the Gamecocks, WNKT-FM (107.5 FM) and over the internet at www.gamecocksonline.com.
