Gamecocks Practice on Wednesday
Aug. 5, 2009
The University of South Carolina football team worked out for the second night in a row in helmets and shorts at the Bluff Road practice fields. The squad went through about a two-hour session on Wednesday.
"We're just running plays, practicing what we try to do in the game, simple as that," said head coach Steve Spurrier. "We're working a little bit on conditioning of course, we always do that. But other than that, we're just trying to teach a whole bunch of guys how to play. Our guys are learning," Coach Spurrier continued. "They have done a good job of actually learning on their own a little bit this summer. We're on schedule to do whatever we're going to do this year."
Coach Spurrier indicated that the paperwork on freshman recruits Ben Axon and Leon Mackey is still coming in. However, the two junior college offensive linemen, Steven Singleton and Rokevious Watkins, were expected in Columbia on Wednesday night and could suit up for Thursday's practice. "We got help in the O-line on the way," said Coach Spurrier.
The team is expected to add shoulder pads when they return to the practice fields on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. That practice, along with Friday and Saturday's practices, is open to the public.
