They are the hearts that pump the lifeblood into college football programs. They spend weeks at a time away from their families and players in motel rooms and rental cars in every small town and major city across the country.

Sounds like an old-school traveling salesman and in many ways, that's what college football recruiters are, at least for the months where they can be on the road.

So says 247Sports.com, as they selected the 50 best recruiters in the country, judged individually for their efforts and successes in the Class of 2012.

The list of the top 50 recruiters includes two coaches from Steve Spurrier's staff at South Carolina, quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus and defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward.

Here's what the website had to say about each:

G.A. Mangus, South Carolina

Despite being off the road for the entire football season and the entire month of January, Mangus signed six guys for the Gamecocks, beating Auburn for Darius English in Atlanta and Georgia for Cody Waldrop in Tampa.

Lorenzo Ward, South Carolina

The Gamecocks defensive coordinator signed nine players from the Atlanta area and beat in-state UGA on running back Mike Davis, defensive back Chaz Elder and offensive lineman Joe Harris.
