Physical play gets Gurley on the field

Junior safety who should be back to full strength this year after suffering a knee injury midway through the 2012 campaign... listed as the second-team free safety behind Chaz Elder entering the fall... can play either safety position... known for being a big hitter... named the "Most Improved" safety and the Harold White GPA award for the defense during the spring by the coaching staff... has made four career starts.

2013: Sophomore safety who worked his way back following a knee injury suffered midway through the 2012 season... played in all 13 games, making a pair of starts... logged 30 tackles, including 21 solo stops... came off the bench to lead the team in tackles with nine, including seven solo stops, in the season-opening win over North Carolina... made his first start of the season at Georgia and responded with a career-high 11 tackles, including eight solo stops... collected 20 tackles in the first two games then just 10 in the final 11 contests... made his second start in the win at Arkansas... intercepted a pass against Coastal Carolina... a member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

2012: True freshman safety who was selected to the SEC All-Freshman squad by the league's coaches... played in eight games logging 13 tackles while working in the secondary and on special teams... one of four true freshmen to play in the season opener at Vanderbilt... made his first career start against Missouri, replacing the suspended D.J. Swearinger in the Gamecock secondary... made his second career start at Florida when the Gamecocks opened in a goal line defense... later suffered a season-ending knee injury in that contest while covering a punt.
