2002: Attended Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.

High School: Graduated from Mayo High in Darlington, S.C. in 2002, but played football for Hartsville (S.C.) High since Mayo did not field a football team... coached by Lewis Lineberger... all-region and all-county selection... preseason all-state and all-region honoree by the Gridiron Greats Annual Football Yearbook... recognized as a top junior prospect by the South Carolina Statewide High School Sports Report... Darco Buyers Guide Player of the Year in 2001... also competed in basketball and track & field, earning all-region honors in both sports... Lower State runner up in the high jump in ninth grade.

Personal: Jamal Rasheem Hayes was born Feb. 19, 1984... majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management... cousin of Tony McDaniel who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
