Columbia native Corey Jenkins begins his second season as an assistant strength & conditioning coach on Jeff Dillman’s staff.

An outstanding athlete, Jenkins was a first round pick in the 1995 Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox. After a stint in professional baseball, he returned to school, first attending Garden City (Kan.) C.C. where he was a two-time first-team JUCO All-American, before coming home to the University of South Carolina. He played quarterback for the Gamecocks in 2001 and 2002, prior to being selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL draft by Miami. In addition to his time with the Dolphins, he also had contracts with Chicago, Carolina and Green Bay in the NFL before finishing his playing career with Winnipeg in the Canadian Football League.

Following his playing career, Jenkins returned to Columbia where he worked for the Department of Commerce for two years, before becoming a certified personal trainer and a member of the American Fitness Professional Association. He served as general manager of Gold's Gym and has worked at Grey Military Academy as the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach.

Jenkins, who earned his bachelor's degree from South Carolina in African American studies, has two children, Jasiah and Natalia.
