All-conference and All-America linebacker candidate returns for his final season with the Gamecocks after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2007 season... held out of contact drills in the spring but looks to be 100 percent in the fall... possesses all the tools... is a tall linebacker with good size... an impact player and leader on the defense... was a first-team All-SEC performer as a junior in 2006 when he led the team with 107 tackles... started each of his first 17 games in a Gamecock uniform before being sidlined with a knee injury in 2007... led the team in tackles in nine of those 17 contests... has a twin brother, Casper, who completed his Carolina eligibility in 2007 and signed a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers.

2007: Was the only Gamecock named preseason first-team All-SEC by both the SEC coaches and the media and was named to the preseason watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Award, Butkus Award and for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award... finished the season with 21 tackles, including 15 solo stops, in four games... led the team with eight tackles, including seven solo stops in the season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, despite playing with a sprained left ankle... recorded his first career interception at Georgia on the game's final play, sealing the 16-12 win for the Gamecocks... had his second interception in as many games when he picked off a pass against South Carolina State... suffered a season-ending right knee injury in the loss at LSU... underwent surgery on Sept. 26.

2006: Arrived in Columbia in January and went through spring drills... started all 13 games... team's leading tackler with 107 total stops, over twice as many as any other player on the squad... an amazing 79 percent of those (85 of 107) were solo stops... ranked fourth in the league and 55th in the country in tackles, averaging 8.2 per game... led the team and was sixth in the league with 14.5 tackles for loss, tops among SEC linebackers... also recorded 5.0 sacks... led the team in tackles in eight of 13 games, including a career-high 13 (11 solos) against Florida... also had 11 stops against Mississippi State and Houston.... presented with the defense's Everyday Effort Award following spring drills.

2004-05: Attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., where he was coached by Bert Williams... was a preseason first-team All-America linebacker who earned second-team postseason All-America accolades... recognized as the team's MVP both as a freshman and sophomore... came from the same program that produced former Gamecocks Brandon Isaac and Joel Reaves.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Thomson (Ga.) High School where he was coached by Luther Welch... was a first-team all-area and all-state selection.

PERSONAL: Jasper Jerrell Brinkley was born July 12, 1985... majoring in African-American studies... enjoys playing basketball and baseball.
