Senior who is in his second year in the Gamecock program... moved to the outside linebacker position in the spring after playing defensive end in 2006... could see action at either spot this fall... former junior college transfer who joined the team in the summer of 2006 and quickly moved into the starting lineup... twin brother of Gamecock middle linebacker Jasper Brinkley... has made 13 career starts.
2006: Started all 13 games at defensive end... was fifth on the squad with 44 tackles, including 26 solo stops... led the team with 7.0 sacks and was second on the squad and ninth in the SEC with 13.5 tackles for loss... named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his efforts at Vanderbilt when he logged six tackles (five solos), four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks... also forced a fumble in that game, one of two that he forced during season... had two sacks in the Liberty Bowl win over Houston, including a key one in the final minutes to help preserve the victory.
2004-05: Attended Georgia Military in Milledgeville, Ga... coached by Bert Williams... rated as a three-star prospect at linebacker by Scout.com and Rivals.com... came from the same program that produced fellow Gamecocks Brandon Isaac and Joel Reaves. High School: Graduated from Thomson (Ga.) High School in 2004... coached by Luther Welch... helped lead Thomson to the 2002 state championship... earned Best Male Athlete honors in addition to all-area recognition as a junior and as a senior.
Personal: Casper Terrell Brinkley was born July 12, 1985... pursuing a degree in African-American studies... had scholarship offers from Arizona State, Baylor and Kansas State.
