Strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde begins his third season with South Carolina in 2011-12. Oderinde joined the Gamecock staff in January 2010. He works with the men's basketball and men's tennis teams at South Carolina. Prior to his time in Columbia, Oderinde spent two years as a member of the Notre Dame staff, working as the speed/skills development coach, while assisting with the strength program for the Irish football team. He also worked with track and field and the men's and women's golf teams. Before his time at Notre Dame, Oderinde served three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, Western Kentucky, and four years on the school's staff. While there, he developed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for the school's men's basketball and softball squads, working with current Gamecock head coach Darrin Horn. During his tenure, the Hilltoppers saw a significant increase in vertical leaps and total strength. Oderinde also assisted with the WKU athletics program's nutrition regimen and was responsible for the purchase of training equipment used by the men's basketball program. A four-year letterwinner in football at WKU, Oderinde helped the 2002 team to the Division I-AA (now Bowl Championship Subdivision) national championship, the school's first in any sport. During Oderinde's career, the squad posted a 40-13 record and advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs each season. |
