South Carolina Head Coach Ray Tanner
"Coach Hibbs is a good coach and Charlotte is a great club. We knew coming in that they were a good club. They have a lot of clutch performances, they have close to 50 wins, and I was not surprised that they were in this game today."
On the win...
"Phil Disher's big blast got us back in the game and Curtis Johnson had a great performance. It was his first win of the year in 29 appearances. He's been a workhorse for us all year and has pitched in some critical innings. It was a hard fought win and I'm very proud of our guys on getting through a very tough Regional."
On reaching the NCAA Super Regional seven of the last eight years...
"I'm delighted to be among that group, but it's really not something I think about. I think about the moment. I don't think about the past or the future too much. I've been fortunate to coach a lot of great players here. There is a great atmosphere for college baseball here. It's all part of having a great program."
Justin Smoak, First Base
On the eighth inning third out...
"I probably should have squared it up a little better, because it wasn't that hard hit of a ball. There was no way I was letting that ball get by me."
On the confidence of the team...
"Our confidence is definitely up right now. After the SEC Tournament, we came back and practiced hard. Our pitchers have kept us in ball games. The offense came up big this weekend."
Phil Disher, Designated Hitter
On his grand slam...
"I didn't want to get the out and get out of the inning with no runs. I thought I hit it pretty well, but the ball hadn't been carrying well all night. It was nice to help the team."
Curtis Johnson, Pitcher
On his performance...
"When I came in I just wanted to give us a chance to win. That was the most important thing. I just wanted to throw strikes to give us a chance. I just kept going out there as long as I could and throw strikes as long as I could."
UNC Charlotte Head Coach Loren Hibbs
"This is what our program is all about. We play hard and I am really proud of our guys. I legitimately thought we had a chance to win, but you have to give South Carolina credit. They do so many things to put pressure on you."
"They have earned the right to play as a number one seed. They have a great fan base, great place to play and great players that are well coached. They really have a chance to compete for a national championship."
Chris Lane #2 (Reflection on the season)
"It has been a great season for us. We thought we had a pretty good chance at having a good season since the beginning of the year. We had a great group of guys that really worked hard. We are not happy losing, but I had lots of fun."
Cory Lane #6 (Fatigue Factor)
"Everybody on the team was exhausted. We were out playing until twelve last night after playing two games yesterday. Then today playing three innings and then sitting around for a rain delay wears on your body."
