Associate Head Coach Chad Holbrook Quotes May 2, 2010
"Outside of the game it was a big three-game series for us. Alabama is very good. They are better than their league stats indicate. They were locked in pretty much all weekend offensively. Our kids battled. These kids want to win and it's neat to see the things that go on in the dugout when things aren't going well and as a coaching staff we have been very proud of them. They've handled adversity well. When things don't go their way or they get behind they tend to respond. It is a team that is fun to coach and they have some characteristics that I like when I see.
It was a tough day to pitch, very tough day to pitch. A lot of pitchers battled today. Matt Price gave us a chance when things didn't look so good. Ethan Carter battled and got some swings and misses on a slider. We were able to finish the game relatively clean all things considered. The conditions were extremely tough. All in all it was a great weekend for us and I'm proud of our team. We are certainly looking forward to the game on Wednesday night.
We are very comfortable with our bullpen... Matt Price and Ethan Carter have been very good for us all year long, as has Michael Roth. We think we have an advantage every time when you battle the bullpens. That's the goal every game we play is to get the starter out as quick as we can. Our kids swing bats really well. We had some breaks, there was a bad hop here and there that could have been a double play. It was our day offensively. Alabama is a good team: they have good arms. It was just a tough day to pitch. We had some success and were able to get 25 hits and that hasn't happened here in a while.
On the players coming off of a loss:
"I was extremely happy with the way they came to the game today. Sometimes when a team comes to the field after a loss they can either be high energy or looking around at each other like, `who's going to take control today?' They were ready to go today from the first pitch and to their credit they didn't let an 8-4 deficit get them down in any way. They responded to adversity like good teams do and we are at home we should respond to adversity. We are lucky to have some good players and got some good swings off the bat."
