Head Coach Chad Holbrook Opening Statement... I am thrilled to win a conference series at home against a top 15-ranked Texas A&M team that made us fight and scratch and claw for this one. As happy as I am that we won the game, I was very disappointed in some of the things that we did and how we played from the last out of the first inning on. We have to play better as a group than we did in the last eight innings, but I am thrilled. Nolan Belcher was terrific once again. He had an absolutely incredible walk to strikeout ratio and Tyler Webb got the big outs again at the end of the game for us. It was a great win and a great series win, but we have another important game tomorrow afternoon.
On Nolan Belcher... Nolan knows what baseball is all about. He knows how to play the game. He knows how to pitch, and he knows what's important. He learned a lot from watching Roth the last couple of years. Roth always trusted his instincts. You can learn a lot even when you aren't playing. You never stop learning whether you are in the game, out of the game or coaching.
On scoring five runs in the first inning... If you had told me before the game that we were going to score five runs in the first inning I'd be happy and we scored five runs in the first and I was as mad as I've ever been. I hate to sound unhappy because we haven't swung the bats as well, but I never want one of my teams to not slide at home plate. I never want that. It just infuriated me and almost cost us the game. I thought that was going to come back and get us, and it nearly did.
Chase Vergason On getting on top quickly... That is always nice to see. There's really not much to it. It was good. That is what we needed to come together as a team. I felt like it just gave us a big uplifting to go on with the year. We needed that.
On success at the plate today... I took home some footage the other day, but I didn't really change much with my swing. I was hitting the ball hard and going right to people and that's baseball. You just have to grind through it and get back on track. I am looking forward to keep going.
Nolan Belcher On pitching after getting five runs in the first inning... It's not too easy. Texas A&M proved that by coming back late in the game. It's a big time relief to get up by five in the first inning. Our hitters did a great job taking some quality swings early on in the count and made some things happen. It's always good to see five runs in the first.
On pitching so well right now... I don't think I've ever done this before, maybe in high school. Honestly I don't even think about it. I just try to make good pitched and if I walk a guy, I walk a guy.
Tanner English On taking the lead early... It is nice. There hadn't been a lot of innings where we jumped out and got a lot of runs like that in the inning. We had kind of struggled and were fighting to get some runs and it kind of gives you a confidence boost, especially at the beginning of the game.
On pain in arm... It doesn't feel good, but I have to go out there and do what I can to help the team out. I can throw it. I probably couldn't take one from the fence to home plate. It's just kind of a work in progress. It is getting a little bit better everyday.
