Gamecock Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Status

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of South Carolina track and field program was honored as one of the top scholastic programs in the country by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week as 11 student-athletes earned All-Academic Team individual honors in addition to the men's and women's teams earning All-Academic Team status.

The men's and women's teams both earned All-Academic Team status as programs that earned cumulative team GPA's of 3.00 or better. Both teams led the SEC in overall team GPA with the women's team earning a 3.39 for the academic year, and the men's team earning a 3.27. The Gamecock men were one of only three teams in the league to earn the distinction, along with Auburn (3.09) and Florida (3.06).

In addition, South Carolina's 11 individual selections ranks second in the Southeastern Conference for total individual All-Academic team members. Arkansas led the league with 19 selections, and South Carolina was followed by Florida (10), Tennessee (10), Kentucky (8), Georgia (8), Alabama (5), LSU (5) and Auburn (4).

Selections from the Gamecock men's team were Louis Day, Marvin Reitze, Matt Shuler and Joshua Suttmeier. Selections from the women's team were Radiance Basden, Kelsey McCorkle, Petra Olsen, Breanna Radford, Nadonnia Rodriques, Erika Rucker and Jeannelle Scheper.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field individual team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
