Gamecock Track Begins NCAA Preliminary Round Thursday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The NCAA Preliminary Round begins Thursday in Bloomington, Ind., with the University of South Carolina program beginning competition at 1 p.m. when sophomore David Wilkins competes in the high jump. Live results and a live webcam will be provided throughout the three days of competition with links available at GamecocksOnline.com. A schedule of when each Gamecock athlete is competing can be found on the MEET NOTES. The men's team qualified 12 entries between nine athletes, in addition to both relays as well. Of the men's individual bids, three are seniors, one is a junior, three are sophomores and three are freshman. The Gamecock men's team earned bids in the 100m (Chris Royster, Antonio Sales), 200m (Antonio Sales, Chris Maxwell), 400m (Clayton Gravesande), high jump (David Wilkins), pole vault (Marvin Reitze), triple jump (Lincoln Carr, Dorian Johnson) and hammer throw (Michael Zajac). The women's team qualified 18 entries between 15 athletes, in addition to the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Of the women's individual bids, six are seniors, six are juniors, one is a sophomore and three are freshmen. The Gamecock women's team earned bids in the 100m (Lakya Brookins, Shayla Mahan, Gabrielle Glenn), 200m (Kelsey McCorkle, Gabrielle Glenn), steeplechase (Beatrice Biwott), 100m hurdles (Kierre Beckles, Janica Austin), high jump (Jeannelle Scheper), pole vault (Angela Rummans), triple jump (Radiance Basden), shot put (Stacee Roberts, Katie Vuckovich, Breanna Radford) and discus (Aimee Kodat). For the second straight season, the country has been split into two regions - East and West - with the top 48 athletes in a region qualifying for the Preliminary Round. The East Preliminary will be held in Bloomington, Ind., and the West Preliminary will be held in Eugene, Ore. The top 12 finishers in an event at each regional preliminary will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships that will be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
