COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina sophomore Erin Fedewa has been named to the 2010 SEC Track and Field Community Service Team as announced by the league office. The team looks to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

As a member of Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society, Fedewa helped with move-in day in August at USC. Also, as a member of Students Engaged in Aquatic Sciences, she is the education outreach chair, a position where she organizes and attends education outreach events at local elementary schools and teaches children about marine conservation with touch tanks. She has participated in several service Saturdays through the University and has also spent time volunteering at Harvest Hope Food Bank.

In addition, she is the community service chairperson at USC's Lutheran Campus Ministry where she helped plan and attended their alternative spring break trip to Mexico this spring to serve with a Lutheran organization. As the chairperson, she also organizes Bible studies and games with the children at Epworth's Children's Home and also volunteered at Manantial de Vida Lutheran Church's after-school tutor program.

As an active member of Student's Advocating a Greener Environment, she has volunteered in several trash clean-ups, recycle drives, energy audits and rallies supporting sustainability. In addition to organizations listed above, this year she served as both her dorm's Hall Government Treasurer and Sustainability Representative. She is also the associate editor of MarSci, USC's undergraduate research journal.

She is employed in Phytoplankton Ecology Lab where she received a Howard Hughes Grant and a 2nd place poster presentation award for her research. In January, she was selected to participate in Virginia Tech's Marine Resources Population Dynamics Workshop in Key West and this summer, she was selected to participate in Duke Marine Lab's summer research program. In addition, she was recently selected as a recipient for the NOAA Hollings National Scholarship Program.

South Carolina travels to Knoxville, Tenn., this week to compete at the SEC Outdoor Championships held May 13-16 at Tom Black Track.
