Track To Host Gamecock Open Meet Wednesday

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina track and field program will host its final outdoor meet of the year, the Gamecock Open Meet, on Wednesday at the Weems Baskin Track Facility. Field events will begin with the hammer throw at 12:30 p.m., and running events will begin at 4 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Twelve colleges from the states of South Carolina and Georgia will participate, including select athletes from the host Gamecocks. Competing teams include Benedict, Chattahoochee Tech, Claflin, Francis Marion, Morris College, North Greenville, Paine College, SC State, USC-Beaufort, Spartanburg Methodist and Voorhees.

Following the meet, South Carolina will return to action this weekend as well when the team travels to Gainesville, Fla., to compete at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Sophomore Jeannelle Scheper will travel to Hamilton, Bermuda, to compete for St. Lucia in the high jump at the LIME CARIFTA Games.
