Gamecock Track Posts Nine Wins Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - South Carolina's track and field programs earned nine wins Saturday as the team concluded competition at the Tar Heel Invitational at North Carolina, the Orange & Blue Classic at Clemson and the Georgia Invitational in Athens.
The Gamecock men's team posted five wins on the day with junior Johnny Dutch sweeping the hurdle events with season bests. Dutch claimed the 110-meter hurdle crown at a personal best 13.50, a time that moves him to No. 2 on the NCAA list this season. He then followed it up with a time of 49.48 to win the 400-meter hurdles, keeping him at No. 2 in the nation in that event as well.
Freshman Andre Carter won the 400-meter dash at 47.80 to lead a 1-2-3 Gamecock finish. Junior Aaron Anderson took second at 47.86 and senior Quentin Moore claimed third at 48.28. The times for Carter and Anderson were season bests. In the 200-meter dash, senior Obakeng Ngwigwa and junior Antonio Sales went 1-2 as Ngwigwa ran a season best 20.70 for the win and Sales ran 20.79.
South Carolina's men also claimed the 4x100m relay at 40.67. In the field events, sophomore Marvin Reitze took third in the pole vault at 16'6 ¾ (5.05m), freshman Lincoln Carr took third in the triple jump at 47'11 ¼ (14.61m) and sophomore Andrew Vaughan claimed third in the javelin at the Georgia Invitational in Athens with a throw of 178-04 (54.37m).
The Gamecock women's team also posted four wins on the day. Sophomore Kelsey McCorkle won the 200-meter dash at a personal best 23.39. Senior Brandi Cross claimed first in the 400-meter dash at 53.89. At the Orange & Purple Classic in Clemson, S.C., sophomore Beatrice Biwott won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at a personal best 10:39.21. The final victory on the day came from sophomore Stacee Roberts at the Georgia Invitational with a throw of 48'1 ¼ (14.66m) in the shot put.
Junior Janica Austin claimed second in both hurdle events after running 13.55 in the 100-meter hurdles and 59.22 in the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Tatianna Fisher claimed third in the 100-meter dash at 11.61, and Breehana Jacobs took fourth at 11.82.
South Carolina travels to Knoxville, Tenn., next week to compete at the SEC Outdoor Championships held May 13-16.
