Gamecocks Win 15 Events At Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina won 15 at the Weems Baskin Invitational Saturday to cap a strong home meet that featured 17 teams from the region.
WOMEN'S TEAM
South Carolina swept the hurdle events as KeKe Clarke claimed the 100-meter hurdle crown and Radiance Basden claimed the 400-meter hurdle crown. Clarke ran 13.86 in the 100-meter hurdles, and Basden ran 1:01.65 in the 400-meter hurdles. The Gamecocks also won the relays with a time of 44.64 in the 4x100m relay and a time of 3:47.26 in the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m was run by Brookins, Glenn, Shayla Mahan and Breehana Jacobs; the 4x400m relay was run by Byrd, Glenn, Rodrigues and Jacobs.
Moving to the middle distances, sophomore Beatrice Biwott placed third in the 1500m run at 4:46.11, and Nicole Rheinlander placed fifth in the 5000m run at 19:05.99.
In the women's field events, school record holder Vica Shobe earned the win at 4.00m, and sophomore Allie Nicosia took third at 3.75m. Junior Kayla Blake claimed third in the high jump at 1.65m, and Aimee Kodat placed second in the discus at 43.74m.
MEN'S TEAM
Senior Obakeng Ngwigwa won the men's 400m at 47.32 to lead the Carolina sprinters. Daniel Smoak won the 5,000m run at 15:17.46, and Vince DePiano took third at 15:57.00.
The 4x400m relay team of Quentin Moore, Obakeng Ngwigwa, Johnny Dutch and Aaron Anderson won the event at 3:12.66. The men's 4x100m relay team of Quentin Moore, Obakeng Ngwigwa, Andre Carter and Booker Nunley placed second at 41.65.
In the men's field events, South Carolina went 1-2-4-5 in the triple jump with Lincoln Carr (15.06m), Aaron Searles (14.77m), Tony Brown (13.96m) and Jarrett Gerald (13.50m) leading the Gamecocks. Carr also took third in the long jump at 6.98m. In the high jump, freshman David Wilkins won the meet at 2.10m. SEC Champion Elliott Haynie won the pole vault at 16-4 ¾ (5.00m).
The Gamecocks head to Gainesville, Fla., next weekend to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays. The team then returns home Wednesday, April 7 with the Gamecock Open Meet.
