Gamecock Track Earns Four Wins At Shamrock Day One

By Miquel Jacobs MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - South Carolina earned four wins in the first day of competition at the Shamrock Invitational Friday night to get a strong start to its outdoor season at Doug Shaw Stadium. The Gamecocks earned two wins on both the men's and women's teams. On the men's side, junior Jarrod Hutchen got the long jump victory with a best mark of 24'2 ½ (7.38m), and the other victory came from the 4x200-meter relay team at 1:24.03. The women's 4x200-meter relay also earned the win at a Shamrock Invitational meet record time of 1:36.21. Freshman Chalese Davis earned the final victory in the long jump at 19'0 (5.79m). South Carolina redshirt freshman Joshua Suttmeier placed third in the javelin throw in his first official meet as a Gamecock and threw for the second-best mark in program history at 224'8 (68.47m). The final day of competition at the Shamrock Invitational resumes Saturday morning.
