Gamecocks Run At Last Chance Meets

AMES, Iowa & BLACKSBURG, Va. - Kierre Beckles jumped into the nation's top 15 in the women's 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.16 to highlight the South Carolina efforts at the NCAA Last Chance meets at Iowa State and Virginia Tech Saturday.
Beckles's time of 8.16 ranks third in the Gamecock record books and almost assuredly grants her a spot at next week's NCAA Indoor Championships, although she will have to wait until bids are announced Monday night to see if she has claimed one of the final spots. Janica Austin had a top time Saturday of 8.36 in the hurdles to place fifth.
Also at Virginia Tech, Chris Maxwell ran a personal best 7.00 in the men's 60-meter dash and Antonio Sales ran 21.36 in the 200-meter dash. The men's relay team of Clayton Gravesande, Aaron Anderson, Andre Carter and Antonio Sales had a season best time of 3:08.96 to move towards the bubble of final candidates. The women's relay of Sanura Eley-O'Reilly, Kelsey McCorkle, Austin and Beckles ran 3:39.21.
At Ames, Iowa, Shayla Mahan and Vashti Bandy both ran the 60-meter dash with top times of 7.32 and 7.58, respectively. Bandy also ran 24.99 in the 200-meter dash. In the field events, Jeannelle Scheper took third in the high jump at 5'7 ¾ (1.72m) while Angie Rummans took seventh in the pole vault at 12'9 ½ (3.90m).
Two men competed at Iowa State with Matt Shuler claiming eighth in the pole vault (5.08m // 16'8) and David Wilkins claiming ninth in the high jump (2.05m // 6'8 ¾).
