South Carolina swimming and diving opens the Gamecocks’ homecoming weekend with its first home meet of the season on Thursday. The Gamecocks take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Carolina Natatorium with diving beginning at 3 p.m. and swimming commencing at 4 p.m.

The Gamecocks are coming off a sweep of Cincinnati during a two-meet road weekend. South Carolina earned victories over the Bearcat men and women, with the Gamecocks winning 178-117 (W) and 167-128 (M). Julia Vincent’s stellar performance at the meet earned her the SEC Diver of the Week award for the first time this season.

The Gamecock women have head a strong season, sweeping Arkansas and Missouri in their first meet of the year and holding a 3-1 season record to earn them the No 22 spot in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 Poll. The men got off to a slow start, but have picked up speed with a spot at No. 20 in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll and a 1-2 season record.

In their last competition against the Tar Heels, the Gamecocks earned multiple first place finishes, including the in the women’s 200 IM relay, 800 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay. The men also earned a first-place relay finish in the 200 freestyle relay featuring current Gamecocks Itay Goldfaden, Justin Rose and Carter Bennett.

South Carolina trails in the all-time series against North Carolina. The women have a 4-11 record and the men are 9-19 against the Tar Heels.
