Signee Brandonn Almeida Advances to FINAL World Championship Final

BUDAPEST, Hungary - South Carolina men’s swimming signee Brandonn Almeida advanced to Sunday’s final of the 400-meter IM at the FINA World Championships, after posting the event’s fifth-fastest time in Saturday’s prelims. Returning Gamecocks Tomas Peribonio and Akram Mahmoud also competed in prelims on Saturday, both finishing the top 12 in their event.

Almeida, a São Paulo, Brazil, native, swam a time of 4:13.13 Saturday, to advance to the finals, which will air on NBC Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.

Joining Alemida in the 400-meter IM prelims was senior Peribonio, who swam a time of 4:17.37 to win his heat with the 12th-best prelim time. Another senior, Mahmoud, competed in the 1500-meter freestyle, swimming a 14:59.56 to post the 10th-fastest prelim time to narrowly miss out on the final. Peribonio swims for Ecuador internationally, and Mahmoud represents his home country, Egypt.
