COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina freshman diver Cole Miller has been named a finalist for the Saskatchewan Sport Awards Youth Male Athlete of the Year.
Miller put together an impressive list of accomplishments during the last year, highlighted by an eighth-place finish on the three-meter springboard at the Canadian Winter Senior Nationals that qualified him for the Canadian Olympic Trials.
"Cole has had a great first semester here," South Carolina diving coach Todd Sherritt said. "His improvement has put him in the top eight in the Canadian nationals, and qualified him for the Olympic trials. This nomination is well deserved. I believe this is just the beginning of many awards he will have before he is done."
Miller placed third on the one and three-meter springboards and sixth on the platform at the Alberta Winter Provincials, breaking Saskatchewan records for the one and three-meter events. At the Alberta Summer Provincials, he finished first on the one-meter and second on the three-meter board. Miller claimed first on the one-meter, sixth on the three-meter and third on the platform in his age group at the National Championships. He finished 11th on the one-meter, eighth on the three-meter and third in the synchronized diving at the Junior Pan Am Games.
