Gamecocks Earn Three Firsts at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming finished the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational in third and fifth place, respectively. Big wins in individual event finals helped South Carolina secure their spots in the rankings at the end of day one.

Three Gamecock women earned spots in the A-Final of the 500 freestyle with Sarah Smith taking the highest place for South Carolina at sixth. On the men’s side, Fynn Minuth earned major points for the Gamecocks with a first-place finish in the 500 free along two other South Carolina swimmers in the A-Final.

Emma Barksdale sealed another first-place finish for South Carolina in the 200 IM, winning the event with a time of 1:56.41. Kersten Dirrane also competed in the event’s A-Final, finishing ninth.

Following up Barksdale’s win, Tomas Peribonio took first in the men’s 200 IM, swimming a 1:45.16. Nils Wich-Glasen also competed in the 200 IM A-Final, finishing with a time of 1:50.18.

Christina Lappin was the lone Gamecock to make the A-Final for the 50 freestyle, finishing with an NCAA B-cut time of 22.65 for seventh place. Justin Rose swam the fastest time for the men in the 50 freestyle with a 20.41.

Grant Summers made the men’s 3-meter diving final, finishing in seventh with 310.10 points.
