The SEC is one of the toughest conferences in the country in softball, sending teams to the Women's College World Series many times since the league adopted the sport in 1997. South Carolina started things with a 1997 appearance. The past few seasons, the SEC has boasted of numerous top-10 and NCAA Tournament at-large teams, giving the Gamecocks the chance to play against and defeat the best in the country.
