Wearing the Garnet and Black is a privilege and the ability to suit up every day to represent the University of South Carolina and compete in the best athletic conference in the country provides an opportunity to become a champion.
“I have never seen such loyal fans than what I have experienced since moving to South Carolina! It was quite evident as we had national record breaking attendance for our three rounds of NCAA tournament matches last fall. We always seem to attract a great crowd, and it really has helped us perform well when we play at home.
In addition to the outpouring of community support, the alumni of the program have shown how much South Carolina has meant to them. Players from the start of the program in 1995 to those who played for our staff since 2001, have shown so much pride for the program. They come back in great numbers every year for our alumni game and keep in close contact with the program often sending their words of support!
The university spirit is most evident in the fall for football season, and how exciting it is to be coaching and playing among some of the best athletes and teams in the country and the biggest fan support. The SEC is a premier conference, and the excitement of the athletic competition lasts throughout the year. The thousands of fans that lined the streets of Columbia to congratulate our 2010 National Championship Baseball program was another example of why it is so great to play for the Gamecocks and among the SEC and the city of Columbia, SC!” – Coach Shelley Smith
