Playing in the SEC

The South Carolina Gamecocks compete in the Southeastern Conference which consistently is recognized as the top athletic conference in the nation. Five of the last six seasons, at least six SEC teams have been selected to the NCAA Tournament. In 2011, a record eight teams, including the Gamecocks, were selected to the postseason tournament. Under the guidance of Head Coach Shelley Smith, South Carolina has improved its conference standing each of the past five years en route to winning the 2009 SEC Tournament Championship and the 2011 SEC Regular Season Championship. Smith took over the program as a rebuilding project and has transformed the Gamecocks into a perennial conference and national title contender. Before Smith arrived, the Gamecocks were 6th in the SEC Eastern Division. Smith improved Carolina in the standings each of the past five years, moving from sixth to second in a short time span. Smith followed up the jump by winning the 2011 regular season championship.

The SEC Tournament is held each year at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex in Orange Beach, Ala. The Gamecocks enjoy their stay in Orange Beach in oceanfront condos.
