The Southeastern Conference is routinely among the toughest men's tennis leagues in the country with SEC teams claiming six NCAA team championships (1985, 1987, 1999, 2001, 2007, 2008) in addition to 14 NCAA runner-up finishes, most recently in 2010. At least one SEC team advanced to the national semifinals 11 straight seasons from 1993 through 2003.

In the NCAA individual championships, an SEC player has claimed 17 singles titles, dating back to 1930. Of that number, eight have occurred since 1984, and the league has provided four of the last 11 individual champions, most recently in 2009. Ten SEC tandems have won NCAA doubles titles as well. The SEC has seen 158 singles ITA All-Americans since 1990, and 158 players have received ITA All-America doubles honors.
