READING WITH THE GAMECOCKS - SCHOOLS

The statewide Read with the Gamecocks reading program will continue to promote literacy by creating a three-segment reading program. With this year's plan, the program will be divided into three individual segments that offer students three opportunities to Read with the Gamecocks, and incentives to attend three South Carolina basketball games/three special events with the Gamecocks.

ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS:
South Carolina's elementary school students grades K-5

  • Schools and organizations may participate in one or all segments of the program. The highest Reading Heroes will be invited to a pregame reading celebration with Cocky.

RULES:
Each student will record the number of pages read during the contest on the Reading Log sheets provided (parents or guardians should initial the student's reading sheet). Please total the number of pages read on the Reading Log and help maintain the integrity of the program by ensuring the child is reading age appropriate material.

The visits to the winning schools or organizations (team members will only be allowed to visit schools within a 30-mile radius of the University of South Carolina (Columbia campus) per NCAA compliance regulations).

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION:
We are requesting a volunteer from your school or organization to be our "Read with the Gamecocks" program coordinator (RPC) and contact person. This person should collect the CLASSROOM TOTALS and then compile the information for the SCHOOL TOTAL and FAX them to our office at 803-777-5280 by the dates below. If you have difficulty sending your fax, please contact us at Readgc@mailbox.sc.edu to make alternate arrangements.

NOTE: The "Read with the Gamecocks" program coordinator will also be responsible for distributing the game tickets to each reader involved. We will provide one voucher for free admission to select games for each participant and one parent or guardian; additional tickets may be purchased on game day for $3 each. Please keep a copy of the school totals form to know who should receive tickets.
