Gamecocks Win Regular Season Finale at Old Barnwell

AIKEN, S.C. – No. 4 South Carolina went 2-0-1 to be crowned champions of the inaugural Old Barnwell Derby Matchplay over the last two days in Aiken County at the newly formed club. The Gamecocks, the host school, welcomed in No. 9 Duke, No. 19 Florida State and Mississippi State for the first edition of the event.

Each team faced off against each other at Old Barnwell over the past two days in round robin format. The Gamecocks were victorious over the Bulldogs and Seminoles on Monday by way of 3.5-1.5 final scores.

Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand went 2-0 to lead the way on day one.

After each went 2-0 on day one, today’s match between Carolina and the Blue Devils was the defacto title match. Duke rallied and tied a pair of matches late as things finished all square at 2.5-2.5 on the scoreboard. The Gamecocks prevailed thanks to senior Sophia Burnett’s dominate 5&4 victory.

The victory is the fourth this season for the top-five Gamecocks. It’s the 27^th career win under head coach Kalen Anderson.

That concludes the regular season for South Carolina as the team will begin preparations for the postseason. This year’s SEC Championship will take place for the first time at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. from April 12-16.
