Gamecocks Take Fourth in Bulldog SEC Preview

ATHENS, Ga. – On an idyllic day on the UGA Golf Course, South Carolina ran to a fourth-place showing at the Bulldog SEC Preview, hosted by the University of Georgia.

Sophomore Anna Kathryn Stoddard led the team with a 16th-place showing, stopping the clock in 22:49.9 on the 6K course. The next set of Gamecocks finished in a bunch, taking points 25-29 to edge out Tennessee for fourth place. Junior Allison Mueller (23:11.7) and senior Kaylee Wessel (23:14.5) led the group, while freshmen Heather Stone (23:17.6) and Brooke Wilson (23:18.8) came in steps later to round out the scoring five.

Sophomore Sarah-Sims McGrath tallied her best collegiate 6K at 23:45.5 and ranked 48th overall, while freshman Rachel Hensler (24:04.0) and senior Allie Sprague (24:05.5) came in at 55th and 56th, respectively. Sophomores Megan Buechler and Morgan Lee finished back-to-back in 67th and 68th, just ahead of classmate Leah Ford in 72nd. Running their first 6K collegiately, freshmen Sarah Riser and Kylee Yturralde rounded out the Gamecock competitors in 73rd and 77th.

Georgia won the home meet, topping rival Georgia Tech 19-49. In third was Texas A&M, while the Gamecocks edged out Tennessee for fourth place. LSU finished sixth and Mercer came in seventh. Bulldog Jessica Drop claimed the individual crown.

South Carolina takes two weeks off before competing in the 62nd Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, on Sept. 29.
