Gamecocks Post 4-2 Victory in Final Home Match

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The No. 13 South Carolina women’s tennis team registered a 4-2 victory against No. 26 Ole Miss Friday on Sunday at the Carolina Tennis Center to improve to 16-6 on the season and 7-4 in the SEC. The win also marked the Gamecocks’ third SEC victory in a row. The Rebels dropped to 13-10 overall and 3-7 in league matches.

Despite dropping the No. 1 doubles match quickly by a 6-1 score, the Gamecocks proved resilient on the other two courts. Paige Cline and Brigit Folland scored a 6-3 triumph over Natalie Suk and Brooke Stevens at the No. 2 spot. Then Hadley Berg and Rachel Rohrabacher clinched the point at three over Zalina Khairudinova and Tea Jandric, 6-3.

The bottom of the lineup proved key again for the Gamecocks as courts four, five and six were each able to take wins and clinch the match for South Carolina. Berg dominated her opponent on court four with a 6-0, 6-2 score, taking a 2-0 record on the weekend, stretching her win streak to 18 and staying perfect on the season. Folland would contribute next, increasing the Gamecocks lead to 3-0 with her 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 spot. The win is her seventh consecutive singles win including six SEC victories.

The Bulldogs would strike back with two singles victories of their own. Arianne Hartono (40) stamped a 6-1, 6-1 win on court one over Ingrid Gamarra Martins, while Suk (90) defeated Mia Horvit (54) on court two 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to bring the score within one.

Silvia Chinellato would take her opponent to third-set battle, eventually defeating her Tereza Janatova 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Gamecocks and make a 4-2 final score. the Garnet and Black. The win continued Berg’s blistering start to the season as she improved to 8-0 this spring.
