PORTLAND, Ore. ââ’¬” South Carolina striker Savannah McCaskill netted her second goal for the U.S. Soccer U-23 Team after finding the back of the net in the 74th minute in the squad’s match against the Houston Dash of the NWSL Sunday night at Providence Park. The Americans fell to the Dash 2-1 in the first contest of the Thorns Spring Invitational.

McCaskill, who served as the team captain in the game, opened the scoring and gave the United States a 1-0 lead when she followed her own shot and capitalized on the rebound in the box. The Carolina rising senior raced to the loose ball before slotting it home inside the near post.

The Dash scored twice in the final stages of the game to complete the comeback and secure the 2-1 victory.

McCaskill made her debut for the U.S. U-23 squad earlier this month at the La Manga Tournament in Spain. The Chapin, S.C., native tallied the game-winner in the team’s 2-0 win over Japan on March 2.

The Americans and McCaskill resume play at the Thorns Spring Invitational Wednesday against the Portland Thorns. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be streamed live on ThornsFC.com.
