COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina midfielder Kortney Rhoades (2009-11) has been named the women’s soccer coach at Delaware State University, the school announced on Wednesday.

Rhoades, a three-year letter winner at South Carolina, made 60 appearances for the Gamecocks after transferring from St. Joseph’s following her freshman season. She served as a team captain as a senior in 2011, leading South Carolina to its only SEC regular-season title in program history.

The midfielder notched two game-winners during the 2009 SEC Tournament to help the Gamecocks capture their lone conference postseason championship, and she finished her career with 26 points on 10 goals and six assists. South Carolina reached the NCAA Tournament in each of Rhoades’ three seasons in Columbia.

Following her playing career, Rhoades served as a student assistant with South Carolina in 2012. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Health and earned multiple academic honors, including a spot on the 2011 Third Team All-National Consortium for Academics and Sports. Rhoades will take over for a Delaware State team that totaled a program-record eight wins last season.
