The No. 18 Gamecocks earned a spot in the 24-team championship field following their second-straight victory at an NCAA Regional this past weekend. South Carolina, which needed to finish in the top six in its regional to advance to the NCAA Championship, claimed a share of the Baton Rouge Regional with a three-day total of 857 (-7). Junior standout Katelyn Dambaugh earned her first career medalist honors at the 54-hole event, matching the program-record with a 207 (-9).

South Carolina is one of just five schools to reach the NCAA Championship in each of the last seven seasons, and this spring marks its 16th overall appearance at the event. The Gamecocks finished 17th at the 2015 NCAA Championship, and their best showing at the tournament came in 2012 when they placed fifth. The 24-team field at the 2016 NCAA Championship will be cut to 15 schools following three rounds of stroke play. A fourth stroke-play round will narrow the field to eight teams that will compete in match play before a champion is determined after three more rounds. A full list of the 24 participants can be found on the NCAA Women’s Golf Webpage.
