COLUMBIA, S.C. – Top-ranked South Carolina swept Golfweek’s college women’s weekly honors, with the Gamecocks earning Team of the Week accolades and senior Justine Dreher garnering Player of the Week recognition, the publication announced on Monday.

South Carolina opened its season with a victory at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate last week. A final-round 6-under 282 helped the Gamecocks to a 10-under total and a seven-shot victory over Arizona and the rest of the field that featured 11 of the nation’s top 13 teams. All five South Carolina golfers carded rounds of even par or better on the final day and pulled away from the field with nine birdies on the back nine.

Dreher shined for the Gamecocks at the event, earning medalist’s honors with a 9-under 207 to capture her first collegiate win. The total matches Kristy McPherson’s 54-hole score of 207 at the 2001 SEC Championships as the lowest in school history. Dreher led the field in par-5 scoring at 8-under and recorded just three bogeys at the tournament.

South Carolina returns to action this weekend, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Tar Heel Invitational. The event at the UNC Finley Golf Course is set for Fri., Oct. 10-Sun., Oct. 12.
