GAINESVILLE, Fla. – South Carolina, on a rapidly warming day on the Mark Bostick Golf Course, saw Mary Reiser take a spot on the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team in the SEC Championships on Friday morning. As a team, the Gamecocks finished 12th overall.

Reiser finished second on her team behind junior Meredith Mill, who posted a great time on her own. Mill crossed the finish line with the fourth fastest 6K time in South Carolina history at 20:57.38. Mill took 15th overall. Reiser took a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team with her place of 33rd, closing at 21:33.77. That time beat her previous best by almost 20 seconds.

The next five Gamecocks finished in a group of 13, led by sophomore Stephanie Berger’s 22:56.06 time in 86th. Senior Penny Boswell took 89th at 23:03.76, while sophomore Anna Todd came in just behind Boswell at 23:04.06, her best 6K time of the season. Freshman Martha McCoy ranked 92nd with a 23:09.56 clocking, and sophomore Christine Kent took the last points for the Gamecocks in 98th with 23:35.49.

Arkansas won the SEC title with 32 points, with all five scorers earning first-team or second-team All-SEC honors. Texas A&M took second, and Kentucky claimed third. The Razorbacks held the top three spots, with Dominique Scott claiming the individual crown at 20:02.81. Shannon Klenke (20:10.62) and Grace Heymsfield (20:11.77) rounded out the top three for Arkansas.

Reiser becomes the third Gamecock on the SEC All-Freshman team in the last six years, joining Beatrice Biwott and Kayla Lampe. Mill became only the third Gamecock to break 21 minutes in a 6K, following Lampe and Jenny Lake.

Junior Alex Mullin led the final three Gamecocks who finished in a row, posting a 20:00.41 time to rank 107th. Sophomore Brandy Wybersky (24:03.55) and freshman Sarah Falta (24:10.14) were right behind Mullin. After a mild morning, the clouds broke just as the women’s race began, bringing sunlight and humidity more into play into the race.

The Gamecocks now head to the NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by the University of Virginia on Fri., Nov. 15.
