COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team is ranked third in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association preseason poll, it was announced today.

The Gamecocks debut at No. 3, behind national runner-up Georgia (No. 1) and national champion Auburn (No. 2).

Carolina opens the 2013-2014 slate on Friday, when the Gamecocks host fifth-ranked Kansas State at 10 a.m. Friday’s meet will take place at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, and admission to all Gamecock equestrian meets is free.

The format for this year’s NCEA ranking system has changed. The coaches poll was eliminated, and now rankings are determined by a selection committee. The poll will be released twice per month, with the next poll release scheduled for Sept. 30.
