Final Stats

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – South Carolina (6-8-4, 3-5-3 SEC) collected a 1-0 win over Alabama (8-8-2, 3-7-2 SEC) on Sunday afternoon in conference play. The lone goal of the match came on an own goal in the 14th minute.

The Gamecocks were led by junior midfielder Danielle Au who tallied two shots on the day. Au’s two shots were both on goal and were the only two shots on frame in the match for South Carolina. Sophomore defender Christa Neary registered two shots on the day as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo was solid in the net again, bringing in three saves in the shutout performance.

For Alabama, sophomore forward Pia Rijsdijk registered two shots in the match up with both coming on frame. Freshman forward Katie Bourgeois also had two shots on the day, both coming in the second half. One of Bourgeois’ shots was on goal. Crimson Tide goalkeeper Shelby Church collected two saves on the day.

South Carolina began the game aggressively, getting two early shots. Au registered the first in the second minute. Neary notched the second when she got her head on a corner kick opportunity from sophomore defender Andie Romness.

A Gamecock free kick in the 14th minute resulted in an own goal that gave South Carolina an early 1-0 lead.

In the 39th minute, the Gamecocks threatened again. Au put her second shot of the match on goal, but Alabama keeper Church collected the save to keep the score 1-0.

In the second half, Alabama came out as the aggressor. The Crimson Tide racked up two early shots in the second half. Both shots, the first by Rijsdijk and the second by Bourgeois, were saved by D’Angelo.

Coryn Bajema registered South Carolina’s only shot of the second half in the 57th minute. The Gamecocks were not able to add to their lead as Bajema’s shot went wide of the goal.

Alabama tried to equalize again in the 75th minute when Ashley Willis released a shot that was blocked and Bourgeois pushed a shot wide of the goal just seconds later.

The Gamecocks will host No. 11 Florida in the regular season finale at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 25. The 6:00 p.m. match up at Stone Stadium is scheduled to be broadcast on SUN Sports. Senior Night festivities will take place for Dani Henry and Darien Vercillo before the game.
