University of South Carolina sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Gamecocks’ win at Kentucky on Saturday, it was announced today.

Clowney, a 6-6, 256-pounder from Rock Hill, S.C. was credited with four tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack in the 38-17 Carolina win. He helped the Gamecock defense limit the Wildcats to just 70 yards in the second half, as Carolina rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit. Kentucky had seven second-half possessions with four ending in punts, two in interceptions and one when the clock ran out to end the game.

This is the second time this season that Clowney has been selected as the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week. He also was honored following the win over UAB on September 15.

Clowney and the sixth-ranked Gamecocks (5-0, 3-0 SEC) will host fifth-ranked Georgia (5-0, 3-0 SEC) on Saturday, October 6. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
