COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Marvin Reitze capped his record-setting weekend by being named the SEC Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Reitze won the men’s pole vault at the Penn Relays at a school record mark of 18’1 (5.51m). He became just the ninth person to ever clear 18 feet at the Penn Relays and the first to do so in 10 years. For his efforts, Reitze was named the Penn Relays Outstanding Men’s Athlete of the Meet, presented by the Philadelphia Sportswriter’s Association to one individual event athlete each year. He is the second Gamecock to win the pole vault (Dale Gerke – 1987), and is also the second Gamecock to ever be named the Penn Relays Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet (Terrence Trammell – 1999). Reitze, who now holds the school records for the indoor and outdoor pole vault, moves to No. 3 in the NCAA and is the East Region leader in the event.

Reitze is the fifth Gamecock to be honored by the SEC this year, following the indoor season selections of Jeannelle Scheper (Female Field Athlete), Radiance Basden (Female Field Athlete) and Damiere Byrd (Male Freshman), and the dual outdoor selection of Chalese Davis (Female Runner and Female Freshman).

The Gamecocks travel to the Clemson Tiger Qualifier this weekend before competing at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
