WALLACE, N.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf team posted a 293 (+5) and is in sixth place after Friday’s first round of the River Landing Intercollegiate at River Landing Golf Club.

The Gamecocks are 10 strokes back of tournament leader Liberty. The Flames carded a 5-under 283 to take the lead. The teams began the second round in the afternoon and were able to finish nine holes, but results were unavailable.

Senior Wesley Bryan, who is coming off a top-20 finish last weekend, continued his solid play to lead Carolina. Bryan carded a 1-under 71 to wrap up the day in a tie for fifth. The Chapin, S.C., native is three strokes back of tournament co-leaders Robert Karlsson (Liberty) and Jordan Sweet (Maryland), who each shot a 4-under 68 on Friday.

Junior Dykes Harbin turned in a 1-over 73 to move into a tie for 26th. Harbin is coming off a top-15 finish after recording a career-low 68 in the final round of the Augusta State Invitational last weekend.

Freshman Caleb Sturgeon posted a 2-over 74 to head into the clubhouse in a tie for 32nd, while freshmen Will Murphy and Sean Kelly shot rounds of 75 and 76, respectively. Murphy is in a tie for 42nd, and Kelly is tied for 49th.

North Carolina State and Maryland each shot a 2-under 286 to finish the day in a tie for second, followed by North Carolina (289) and Duke (291).

Second-round play will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the final round. The Gamecocks will remain in a pairing with East Carolina and Liberty.
