Recap | Box Score

South Carolina Head Coach Ray Tanner

Jake Williams in the clean-up spot…
He really had a great game for us and we needed it. We needed all of his hits and his RBI, he is a guy who has been there for us all year, and with Brady out tonight… I just tried to keep my older guys up there as much as I could and he had a great game for us.

Is Webb coming into games from the bullpen the role for him or do you see him being a starter?
I don’t think that we will put him in the front of the game, he just seems to be much better coming out of the bullpen, and I think that he feels that way as well. With that being said, if we got into a situation and said we think you should start today I’m sure he would be glad to go. I think he’s gotten into a comfort zone coming out of the bullpen.

Were you concerned after Arkansas about Walker and Morales?
I think that you always want your veteran players doing well offensively, but that’s just not really the way baseball is. Neff had the deal this weekend where he had six hits. Morales had a couple of good swings tonight, a couple hard hit balls where he got hits. Walker is still seeing it pretty good his numbers are ok. If you get close to double digit hits then it doesn’t really matter who gets them most of the time if you do that you are gonna score enough runs in most cases to win. You would like to have all those guys going at the same time but that’s just not the way baseball is.

Jake Williams, Right fielder
Did you feel like you need to step up being in the clean up role and with Brady Thomas being out?

I liked it. Anywhere in the lineup I am going to try and score runs and get RBIs, but with Brady out I felt like I needed to try and get in there and make some things happen.

On sloppy play and whether the weather played a factor…
A little bit of both, the weather probably a little, but errors happen. We are a great defensive team, but errors happen. You just got to try to get past it.

Did you see yourself getting this many at-bats and batting this well?
That was one of the main reasons I left Wofford in the first place, because I envisioned myself being able to come here and contribute and play at this level. At the beginning I was mostly DH-ing, but now that I’m out there I feel like I could play outfield with anyone in the country. I’ve been able to do well so far.

Tyler Webb, Pitcher
Is coming out of the bullpen is that the role they want you in going forward?
They haven’t said much about it they just said when I come in just try and pound the zone and throw as hard as I can for as long as I can, so that’s just what I have been trying to do.
