NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – South Carolina freshman Caulder Moore fired a tournament-best 65 (-7) at The Surf Golf and Beach Club on Tuesday, vaulting up the leaderboard to a runner-up finish at the Barefoot at the Beach.

The Gamecocks sent four individuals to the tournament, hosted by Appalachian State, as the second of the squad’s “Garnet Team” events for the season. No team score was recorded as the event does not count toward the Gamecocks’ season totals.

Moore, a native of Isle of Palms, S.C., shot a first-round 74, then moved into the tournament’s top 10 with a 4-under-par 68 in Monday’s second round. But his closing round of 65 – which included eight birdies and just one bogey – was the best of any round in the tournament and earned him a runner-up finish in the event, shooting a career-best 207 (-9).

Sophomore Clint Tolleson was in the top-10 after an opening-round 71 on Sunday, then posted consecutive rounds of 74 on Monday and Tuesday to finish in a tie for 21st place at 219 (+3). Tolleson recorded three birdies against five bogeys in his final round.

Senior Chase Liebler and junior Michael Raines tied for 54th place at 233 (+17). Liebler had his best round of the season on Monday, posting a 74 (+2), and Raines overcame a tough start to the week and signed for a 73 (+1) in Tuesday’s final round.

Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State was the individual medalist with a 13-under-par 203, four shots ahead of Moore.

The Gamecock varsity will play their second tournament of the spring this weekend as they make the cross-country trek to Bandon, Ore., for the Bandon Dunes Championship. The tournament runs Friday-Saturday at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
