MILWAUKEE — South Carolina’s women’s tennis team concluded play in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sunday with a 9-0 record to finish 26-1 over the three-day event.

Dijana Stojic posted her third singles victory of the tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Maria Nivia of Western Michigan and earned the event’s singles champion title in the process. The Gamecocks’ Katerina Popova earned runner-up honors after defeating WMU’s Miloslava Shutstova 6-0, 6-0.

Miljana Jocic, Madeleine Saari-Byström and Dominika Kanakova all posted straight set victories against Western Michigan and finished with 3-0 records in singles as well. Jocic beat Nino Sujashvili 6-1, 6-1 while Saari-Byström upended April Kerr 6-0, 6-1. Kanakova won 6-2, 6-2 over Jill Pastunink.

Anya Morgina finished 2-1 at the event with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Maggie Remynse and ran her record to 5-1 on the fall. Morgina and Jocic were named the Milwaukee Tennis Classic’s doubles champions after they defeated Bonacic and Niedermayerova from Kansas State by a 9-8 final.

In South Carolina’s other two doubles contests versus KSU, Kanakova and Stojic won 9-8 over Chuda and Borau Romas, while Popova and Saari-Byström combined to beat Gomez Aleman and Sertic 8-6.

South Carolina continues its fall schedule at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., over Sept. 24-26.
