COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina continued its successful spring volleyball campaign this past weekend, sweeping three sets from Georgia at home during six-on-six drills.

The Gamecocks handily beat the Bulldogs in three sets, with scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-20 showing the dominance. The two squads were supposed to play doubles in the sand outdoors, but rain moved into the area and washed out that part of the schedule. The teams did play doubles indoors at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center, but no official tallies were kept.

“We’re playing very good volleyball right now,” said Gamecock head coach Ben Somera. “Our pass-set-hit rhythm is as good as I’ve ever seen it. We continue to explore new defenses, and I liked how that looked as well. At the beginning of our indoor spring season, we wanted to improve our backcourt attack, improve our blocking and maintain our offensive rhythm, and I feel we have accomplished those goals.”

South Carolina shifts its emphasis outdoors, as the squad wraps up the spring at the second annual SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships on April 18 in Siesta Key, Fla.
