TAMPA, Fla. – South Carolina had a rough go of it in Monday’s first two rounds of the Central District Invitational at River Wilderness Golf Club and stand tied for 14th place heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Gamecocks shot rounds of 309 (+21) and 319 (+31) for a 36-hole total of 628, tied with Michigan for 14th place in the 15-team field. Auburn leads the tournament at 3-over par through two rounds, which included a 4-under 284 in the day’s first 18 holes.

Junior Benedicte Toumpsin was stellar in her opening round and found herself in a tie for sixth place after firing an even-par 72 in the morning. But a birdie-less second round of 80 (+8) left her at 8-over for the tournament and in a tie for 29th place.

Freshman Katie Burnett had a similar day – great in the morning but struggling in the afternoon. Her opening round 74 (+2) was good enough for a 13th place tie, but an 83 (+11) in the second round left her at 13-over for the tournament and tied for 49th.

South Carolina will complete the 54-hole tournament Tuesday with the 15-team field set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The Gamecocks will tee off on holes 15-18, paired with Michigan and Missouri.
